A Heartfelt Thank You to the Friends of Francis Food Pantry for 32 years of service to our parish!

    Dear Parishioners,

On Thursday, July 29th we closed the Friends of Francis Food Pantry doors for the last time.
It was a very difficult decision to make but a necessary one.  Many tears have been shed by both clients and volunteers.  We opened those doors on Easter Sunday, 1989.

During these 32 years, we prepared and served Easter Dinner at Bread of Life for 25 years, and prepared and served meals on the second Friday of the month at Bread of Life for 29 years.  We also prepared and served meals for Bread and Roses in Lawrence, Pine Street Inn, the Aids Ministry under Sister Zita Fleming, and for the Cardinal's Healing Mass.  We distributed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter Baskets to our clients.  Christmas presents were given to hundreds of needy Children.  We paid gas, electric, and telephone bills along with some rent and mortgage payments when needed. During the pandemic, we purchased computers for children in Medford who could not afford them.

Our Pantry has serviced thousands of clients with meals.  We have always been very much a part of the parish and you, our parishioners, have always answered our requests.  A special thanks goes to Mrs. Alice Byrnes whose late husband gave us our very first donation of $1,000.00.  Special thanks to all of the volunteers who gave so willingly of their time, preparing food baskets, baking for our dinners, and to those who served.
